Pinterest: The Next Big Social Media Channel?

Facebook. Twitter. YouTube. Google+.

Now add Pinterest as the next dominate social media for companies.

Never heard of Pinterest? Chances are, you will soon.

It’s experiencing wild growth as an online bulletin board for your favorite images. Launched in 2010, the site registered more than 7 million unique visitors in December, up from 1.6 million in September, according to Entrepreneur magazine.

And, believe it or not, Pinterest is driving more traffic to company websites and blogs than YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn combined, the magazine reports.

As Entrepreneur explains, Pinterest allows you to organize images into boards for specific categories. So when you "pin" something new, your followers will see it. Like Facebook, they can like, comment or re-pin it to their boards.

Business owners – especially retailers – should try out Pinterest by creating a company profile.

Pinterest’s most powerful business application: the ability to post images of your company's products on your Pinterest board and link them back to your website, Entrepreneur explains. This is sort of a virtual store catalog.
