Hello…here’s who we are and what we stand for.
These are the basics of what should be on your website’s About Us page.
About Us is the place where people find out who you are and what you are about. It’s the place where people decide whether to become your supporters, clients or customers, or to leave your site and never return.
Yet for many agency executive directors or business owners, no matter how hard you work on that page, it just falls flat. The page feels fake, like you’re pretending to be someone you’re not.
It’s not so strange to feel this way, after all we’ve been taught not to brag about ourselves. So why would you write a whole page telling your readers how great you are?
In reality, there’s nothing wrong with tooting your own horn on your own website – as long as it’s done through facts, not hype.
In writing the About Us page, explain what differentiates you from the others. Tell us how many years you’ve been in operation. Give your agency’s story, the reason why it was founded, and the way it has developed over time.
Also, add your organization’s history, evolution and values. Describe your capabilities and list your credentials. Explain why you’re uniquely qualified to offer the services or products you provide.
The people visiting your About Us page are prospective donors or customers considering whether to support you or buy from you. They’re trying to figure out if they can trust you. They want answers to questions like these:
- Is this a big organization or small?
- How long have you been around?
- Who are the leaders?
- What makes your agency special?
- What are your core values?
Answering those questions isn’t easy. Just keep in mind: this is your opportunity to tell the world why your company is amazing.
So tell your best story, but make sure it’s done tactfully.
